Savitribai Jyotiba Phule - an Indian social reformer and a women educationist was born on 3rd January 1831. She played an important role in improving women's rights in India during British rule.

Along with her husband Jyotiba Phule, she contributed significantly to the improvement of women’s right during the British rule. One of the noblest works she undertook was to impart education to the women who were the most neglected part of the society. Despite of all the hardships given by the society she continued her work of educating women and opened a School for girls in Pune.

Savitribai Phule spent her life to uplift the status of widows and untouchables even after the death of her Husband. However, she died during the epidemic of Bubonic plague while serving the patients.

It is because of her Indian women have attained the status they have today in India. She is considered as one of the first-generation modern Indian feminists, and an important contributor to the world feminism.
